Volunteering

Want to get more involved in the Siloam community? We are always looking for volunteers to help support the life and work of the church.

Please contact us at office@siloamunitedchurch.org or 519-455-9201 for more information, or to apply for a volunteer position.

Current volunteer opportunities:

  • Gardening Team – Do you like getting your hands dirty? Our gardening team meets 4-5 times per year to care for Siloam’s flower gardens.
  • Scripture Reading – If you enjoy public speaking, you can join the list of readers who read scripture during Sunday services.
  • Siloam Choir & Handbells – Do you love music? Whether it’s singing or ringing, there is a place for you in Siloam’s music ministry.
  • Special Events – Our Yard Sale and Chicken BBQ require a large number of volunteers. Sign up sheets will be available in the Arva Atrium a few weeks prior to each event.

• Participating in worshipful discernment at the regional level
• Voting on matters brought before Regional Council
• Supporting communication between Siloam and the wider church

Interested?
Those who feel called to explore this role are invited to speak with a member of Church Council so that a nomination can be brought forward to the congregation.

❤️ Pastoral Visiting Team

Siloam is grateful for the quiet ministry of care that happens through Pastoral Visiting. As our community grows and changes, we are inviting a few additional volunteers who may feel called to offer companionship and presence to those who are unable to attend regularly or would welcome a friendly visit or call.

What this Volunteer Role Involves

  • occasional visits (phone, home, residence) with individuals from the congregation
  • conversation, attentive listening, and companionship
  • prayer when welcomed
  • gently fostering the connection with the wider church community

How it Works

Visits are arranged in coordination with the minister, and the team, and volunteers are supported with orientation and clear guidelines. This role is not about problem-solving or providing pastoral counselling – it is about offering steady presence and reminding others that they are
remembered and held in community.

If you feel drawn to this quiet and meaningful ministry, please speak with Pastor Christina to learn more and discern whether pastoral visiting might be a good fit for you.

🌍 Community Outreach Ministry

Do you care about justice, compassion, and building relationships beyond the walls of the church?

Siloam’s Community Outreach Ministry is inviting new volunteers to help strengthen our connection with the wider community through service, advocacy, and practical care.

Our Mission

To deepen and strengthen relationships with those outside the congregation through outreach, service, and justice-focused ministry—living out our faith in tangible, hopeful ways.

What We Do

  • support and develop programs that respond to social concerns
  • raise awareness of local, national, and global needs
  • promote the Mission and Service Fund
  • respond to local requests for assistance using church-approved guidelines
  • encourage acts of compassion such as food drives and community-care initiatives
  • work toward a more just society in alignment with church values
  • report activities to Church Council and contribute to an annual congregational report

How the Team Works

  • The committee includes at least four members from the congregation
  • One member represents Outreach on Church Council
  • Meetings are held a few times each year, with extra gatherings as needed

You don’t need special credentials—just a willing heart and curiosity about how faith meets real-world needs.
